Getting Back to Hellford High

Miss Vanessa preaches class.
Dexter Comics Episode 210
Towards the end of the summer, I began writing what would become Dexter Comics Episodes 200-220.

The latest batch of cartoons was inspired after seeing a couple movies with story lines that take place during the span of a day...

Rude and crude, the gang here is more believable than the shit they used to feed us on Saved by the Bell.

Social Programming...

"...You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged.
And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system,
that they will fight to protect it."

-Morpheus, The Matrix

Few movies are funny enough to warrant repeated viewings...
I've seen Clerks II several times now, and it still cracks me up...

"...all that shit they feed us in the movies and greeting cards is just propaganda to get us to marry, have kids and keep the economy going."
-Becky, Clerks II

Holy Watterson...

Was lucky enough to find an old Calvin & Hobbes book at a secondhand store. These two strips are from Something Under The Bed is Drooling...

Takes me back to a simpler time of pushing random buttons,
and football games where the rules were made up on the fly..

Unconditional Love...

Pirate movies are great for summer... Or any time there's an abundance of rum.
My favorite line from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Mmm... Coffee and Cigarettes.

Don't know how I'd missed this Garfield cartoon. It's from 1980, when cartoon characters were still allowed to smoke.

An even older strip from '78 shows Garfield smoking a pipe... Which somehow isn't nearly as awesome as a kitten smoking cigarettes.

Also stumbled upon this image of Sylvester the Cat. A long-forgotten moment from childhood. Funny, it didn't really seem to warp my fragile little mind...
(from The Last Hungry Cat, a Tweety and Sylvester cartoon from 1961)

Billy Madison

One of my favorite lines from Billy Madison starring Adam Sandler.

"Big day tomorrow. A day filled with daiquiris and Nintendos and jack-off magazines"
- Billy's Dad

Dexter Comics 200th Episode

Marley and Dexter
Dexter Comics Episode 198
Had some creative energy to burn, and planned to make several episodes to get back into the groove. But a creative exercise coincidentally turned into twenty comics, bringing the total episode count to 200.

Some of these ideas have been on my short list for a long time... Others just kinda materialized during production.

Classic South Park

I was religiously addicted to South Park during its' first and second seasons... Had most of the episodes recorded on videotape (without commercials), and watched 'em over and over. Since then, have only seen an episode here and there, but recently bought Season 4.

Some of these "classics" are even more enjoyable to watch the second and third time...

Cartman mumbling in his sleep...
( Season 4:  Episode 6 -  " Cherokee Hair Tampons")

Chef and James Taylor singing about prostitutes...
In front of the children.
( Season 4: Episode 15 -  "Fat Camp")

This is why I love South Park so much.

Garfield Archives

Flipping through a copy of "Garfield Takes Up Space", and came across this strip from 1990.
It's even more relevant today than when it was then... Way before the "Reality TV" infestation.

Calvin and Hobbes

Two of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes cartoons...
More philosophical than wacky, funny but true.
